My Approach

As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I have significant experience in the Mental Health and Alcohol and other Drugs fields, along with general community practice. I have worked with individuals, families and groups, providing support in many areas of people’s lives, and I specialise in couples counselling.

Compassion, hope, courage and balance are central themes in my work, as is the importance of a strong therapeutic connection between counsellor and client.

I work collaboratively utilising an integrated model, and draw from multiple evidence based therapies in response to my clients’ specific needs and goals.

These include Solution Focused, Narrative, Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These are underpinned by a Strengths-Based approach, which seeks to help clients gain awareness and clarity around their inherent strengths – highlighting an ability to navigate their problems towards resolution.

I 'tie' my work together through an Existential approach, which highlights the importance of people finding meaning and contentment in their existence. I support clients to reflect on the way they ‘exist’ in the modern world, and to identify how this can affect them physically, mentally, emotionally and psychologically - providing support where they believe they need it.

With a focus on values, identity, and the freedom to choose, I empower and encourage clients to create the life they want.

I am a strong believer in the positive influence of gratitude and nature in people’s lives, and strive to include these in my own every day.

To maintain my professional membership with the Australian Counselling Association, I must satisfy continuing requirements for professional development, training, and supervision. I am required to abide by a code of ethics, designed to protect clients and provide the best possible outcomes.
