Individual Counselling

Many people seek counselling at some stage in their lives, for a multitude of reasons. The number of us doing so has greatly increased since the advent of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Coping resources have been stretched and depleted, challenges never before experienced have had to be faced and overcome, stress levels have been chronically high, and the prevalence of mental ill-health has 'skyrocketed'. However, it is extremely encouraging to know that more people are seeking out professional support, especially if they've not done so before. And more than ever, 'it is ok to ask for help'.

The counselling  process provides a 'safe' space for someone to freely identify and express the distress and difficulty they are experiencing in their life. A therapist provides an environment of 'safety', trust, respect and consistency, and supports clients as they identify and work towards the change they wish to make.  Most importantly, each client's counselling journey is unique to them, based on their individual needs.

The establishment of a strong therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is a critical part of the counselling journey. Research has shown that a positive therapeutic relationship between the two parties, contributes significantly to effective therapy outcomes. In fact, evidence has shown it is more important to the success of therapy than the particular treatment methods used. The stability, consistency, compassion, and unconditional positive regard characteristic of this therapeutic experience, provides the ideal foundation for clients to evolve themselves and their lives.

   Benefits of counselling:-

  • provide a warm, respectful and non-judgmental space to be 'heard' in

  • facilitate access to a therapist who can listen and engage impartially, objectively and professionally

  • help with gaining clarity around issues and difficulties to support decision making, through an approach tailored specifically to each individual

  • provide time and space to work on personal goals, in a focused and supported framework

  • help increase motivation and confidence to work on identified issues, through targeted problem-solving processes

  • guide exploration into the potential deeper causes of current issues, in order to develop more tailored support

  • support the development of skills and tools for current and future use

  • highlight the immense benefits of focusing on wellbeing and balance in life
